You’d be forgiven for thinking these South Australian mataro grapes had a mid-year trip to Europe in 2023. With six months on lees, it has texture and grip like the pebbles underfoot by the Ligurian Sea. Washing into shore, it’s clean and crisp, savoury almost, as house music plays faintly in the afternoon. It tastes like the sound of a husky French voice, wth accents of fresh red berries and summer stone fruits. As the first ever rosé from Daniel Ricciardo’s DR3 wine range, made in collaboration with winemaker Trina Smith at St Hugo, this is something to dance about.
